Abstract:

Humour and literature periodicals have reflected the literary atmosphere of the period in which they had published through the filter of humour and used the guidance of humour while keeping the pulse of literature. These newspapers and magazines, in which writers and poets published their humorous works, have continued to exist as entertaining and alternative resources for the readers of the period and today's researchers against official publications. The newspaper of Papağan, published by Orhan Seyfi [Orhon] between 1924 and 1928 as a literary and humorous newspaper, is significant for literature history researchers due to its rich content and writer staff which is the foremost authors and poets in Turkish literature. In Papağan, Yusuf Ziya Ortaç, Selami İzzet Sedes, Rıza Tevfik Bölükbaşı, Osman Cemal Kaygılı, Halil Nihat Boztepe, Abdülbaki Fevzi Uluboy published their stories, poems, plays, essays and interviews. The newspaper is also notable for its visual and literary content about the prominent authors in its period. Writers have been the subjects of Halil Nihat and Abdülbaki Fevzi's poems, Osman Cemal's revues and interviews, and many anonyms’ fictional news and jokes. These people, caricatured with words and lines, have assisted the purpose of the newspaper to entertain the readers. In this study -based on Papağan's two-year publication activity- the humorous writings about poets and authors will be classified according to their genres and topics. Then the subjects of humour and the relationship between fiction and reality are going to be analysed essentially. In the study, supported by cartoons, it will be tried to construct a humorous profile of the literary atmosphere in those years.
