Due to the growth of the world’s population, a rapid increase in the structural elements in urban areas is also occurring. This increase in structural elements causes the green areas in urban areas to decrease and even disappear over time. In particular, the lack of green spaces in spatial plans, which have an important role in the development of cities, accelerates the loss of these spaces. In this study, the aim is to compare the existing green spaces within the middle-scale city of Niğde with the quantitative values of the green spaces planned in the construction plans. According to the study, the analysis of the data obtained from the relevant institutions and organizations, land studies and literature related to the work area has determined that there are 177 active green spaces with an area of 589 276.01 m2 and that 4,09 m2 active green spaces per person are reduced. According to the 2035 project, the implementation construction plan contains 647 active green areas with an area of 2 717 293.15 m2. When the active green spaces included in the construction plan are applied, the amount of active green spaces per person is 18.87 m2, while the amount of active green spaces per person is 6.29 m2 according to the plan capacity population. In this context, the active green spaces within the research area have been found to be insufficient, and a set of recommendations have been developed to ensure the quantitative increase of green spaces within the research area.
Due to the increase in world population, there is a rapid increase in the structural elements in urban areas. This increase in structural elements causes the reduction of green spaces in urban areas over time. Particularly in the spatial plans that have an important place in the development of cities, not taking into account the green spaces accelerates the loss of these areas. In this study, it is aimed to determine the quantitative values of the green spaces planned in the zoning plans and the existing green spaces within the city of Niğde which is one of the medium-sized cities. In this context, the data obtained from the related institutions and organizations, field studies and the literature related to the study area is analyzed. As a result of analyzes, it has been determined 177 active green spaces (589 276.01 m²) and an active green space of 4.09 m² per capita in the current situation. In the application zoning plan prepared according to the projection of 2035, there are 647 active green spaces with a total area of 2 717 293.15 m². When active green spaces in the application zoning plan are applied, it is determined that the active green space per capita is 6.29 m², while the active green space per capita is 18.87 m² according to current population. In this context, active green spaces within the research area have been determined to be insufficient and a number of recommendations have been developed in order to ensure the quantitative increase of the green spaces in the research area.
