Kültürün bütün ögelerinde olduğu gibi sözlü geleneğe ait verimler de öylesine ortaya konmuş üretimler değillerdir. Nasıl ki herhangi bir eşya tarihsel süreçte çeşitli amaçlarla kullanılmışsa sözlü geleneğin verimleri de üretilme sebeplerine bağlı olarak çeşitli işlevlerde kullanılmışlardır ve kullanılmaya devam etmektedirler. Anlatının gücünün farkına varılması, sözün bir iletişim aracı olarak insan tarafından kullanılmaya başlamasıyla aynı zamana denk gelir. Devam eden süreçte sözün kayıt altına alınabilmesi ya da bilginin somut bir şekilde aktarılabilmesi çabası ise yazının icadına vesile olmuştur. Ancak bunun için resim yazısı, hece yazısı, harf yazısı vb. bir hayli aşamadan geçilmiştir. Bu uğraşların arkasında sözün kayıt altına alınarak nesillere aktarımı isteği bulunmaktadır. Sözlü gelenekteki üretimin gelecek nesillere aktarılmak istenmesinin nedeni, günlük ve törensel yaşama dair bütün kültürel birikimin sözlü anlatı sistemi içinde yer almasıdır. Burada “sözlü” ifadesi, yalnızca sözle ilgili olanı kapsamamaktadır. Mevzubahis ifade zamanla, farklı kültürel aktarım formlarına işaret eden bir terim hâline dönüşmüştür. Söz gelimi bir yemeğin yapımının öğretiminde anlatımı destekleyen en önemli unsur gözlemdir. Hatta kimi zaman yalnızca gözlemlemek yemeğin yapımını öğrenmede yeterli olabilir. Öğretim süreçlerinde gözlemleyerek, işiterek, koklayarak ve dokunarak algılama anlatımı destekleyen dikkatlerdir. Dolayısıyla sözlü gelenek bütün duyuların işbirliği içinde olduğu bir aktarım sistemidir. İnsanlığın yazının icadına kadar geçen sürede oluşturduğu kültürel birikim, söze, şekle ya da işarete dayalı anlatım şekilleri aracılığıyla sonraki nesillere aktarılmıştır. Böylece kültürün nesilden nesle taşınması mümkün olmuş, bilgi alışverişi aksamadan devam etmiştir. Günlük hayata dair rutin eylemler, uygulamalar veya törensel yaşamla ilgili ritüellerin tümü bilhassa sözlü gelenek vasıtasıyla nesillere aktarılmıştır. Gelenek içinde şekillenen bu aktarım mekanizması sözlü gelenek adıyla terimleşmiştir. Yazının icadı, her tür bilginin kalıcı bir şekilde kayıt altına alınmasını sağlamış olsa da sözlü gelenek işlevsel bir şekilde kullanılmaya devam etmiştir. Çünkü sözlü gelenek halkın günlük yaşamının bir parçasıdır. Sözlü yolla aktarım, istense de istenmese de yaşamın bir parçası olduğundan varlığını devam ettirmiştir. Diğer taraftan yazı, ancak halkın da kullanabildiği bir iletişim aracına dönüşünce günlük hayatın bir parçası olmuştur.
As with all elements of culture, products of the oral tradition are not products that have been put forward without purpose. Just as any item has been used for various purposes in the historical process, the yields of the oral tradition have been used in various functions depending on the reasons for their production and continue to be used. The realization of the power of narrative coincides with the beginning of human use of the word as a means of communication. In the ongoing process, the effort to record the word or transfer the information in a concrete way has been instrumental in the invention of writing. However, many stages were passed until the invention of writing. Behind these efforts is the desire to record the word and transfer it to generations. The reason why the production in the oral tradition is desired to be transferred to the next generations is that all the cultural accumulation of daily and ceremonial life is included in the oral narrative system. Here, the expression “verbal” does not only cover the verbal. Over time, the expression in question has turned into a term pointing to different forms of cultural transmission. For example, the most important element supporting the narration in teaching how to cook a dish is observation. In fact, sometimes just observing can be enough to learn how to cook a dish. Perception by observing, hearing, smelling and touching in teaching processes are dynamics that support narrative. Therefore, oral tradition is a transmission system in which all senses cooperate. The cultural accumulation that humanity has created in the period until the invention of writing has been transferred to the next generations through forms of expression based on words, shapes or signs. Thus, it was possible to transfer the culture from generation to generation, and information exchange continued without interruption. Ordinary actions and practices in daily life and all of the rituals related to ceremonial life have been handed down to generations, especially through oral tradition. This transmission mechanism, shaped in tradition, has been termed as oral tradition. Although the invention of writing enabled the permanent recording of all kinds of information, the oral tradition continued to be used in a functional way. Because the oral tradition is a part of the daily life of the people. In any case, oral transmission has continued its existence because it is a part of life. On the other hand, writing became a part of daily life only when it turned into a communication tool that the public could also use. Keywords:
