Bu araştırmanın amacı, sınıf öğretmeni adaylarının doğal afet kavramına ilişkin algılarını metaforlar aracılığıyla incelemektir. Bu araştırma, 2017-2018 eğitim öğretim yılının bahar döneminde öğrenim gören, 78’i kız ve 43’ü erkek olmak üzere toplam 121 sınıf öğretmeni adayı ile yürütülmüştür. Çalışmada, doğal afet kavramının nasıl algılandığına dair derinlemesine incelemeye imkân tanıyan ve nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden biri olan fenomenoloji (olgubilim) deseni kullanılmıştır. Çalışma grubunun incelenen kavramla ilgili görüş ve düşünceleri “doğal afet…………e/a benzer/gibidir çünkü……….” şeklinde eksik bırakılmış bir cümlenin bulunduğu görüşme formuyla toplanmıştır. Verilerin analizinde ise içerik analizi tekniği kullanılmıştır. Araştırmadan elde edilen bulgulara göre öğretmen adayları doğal afet kavramına yönelik toplam 56 geçerli metafor üretmişlerdir. Bu metaforlar ortak özelliklerine göre (n=9) farklı kategori altında toplanmıştır. Araştırma sonucuna göre doğal afet ile ilgili metaforların daha çok “zarar verici ve yok edici olarak doğal afet” kategorisinde yer aldığı tespit edilmiştir. Ayrıca katılımcıların en çok tercih ettiği metaforlar ise yıkım, kıyamet, felaket, ölüm ve insan metaforları olmuştur.
The purpose of this research is to study the perceptions of class teacher candidates about the concept of natural disasters through metaphors. This study was conducted with a total of 121 class teachers candidates, including 78 girls and 43 men, who studied during the spring period of the 2017-2018 educational year. In the study, the phenomenology (olgubilim) design was used, which allows for a deep study of how the concept of natural disasters is perceived and one of the qualitative research methods. The study group’s views and opinions on the concept of the study are “natural disaster ............e/a similar/gib; because ............” It has been gathered in the form of a missing phrase. In the analysis of data, the content analysis technique was used. According to the findings obtained from the study, teachers candidates produced a total of 56 valid metaphors for the concept of natural disasters. These metaphors are gathered under different categories according to their common characteristics (n=9). The research finds that natural disasters are more linked to the category of natural disasters that are “harmful and devastating”. The most popular metaphors were destruction, resurrection, catastrophe, death and human metaphors.
The purpose of this particular study is to examine perceptions of prospective classroom teachers regarding the concept of natural disaster through metaphors. The study was done with 121 prospective classroom teachers, 78 females and 43 males, who were being educated in the 2017-2018 academic year. In the study was employed phenomenological design, one of the qualitative research methods, which allows in depth examination of how the concept of natural disaster is perceived. Opinions and thoughts of the study group about the concept were collected by means of an interview form which contains incomplete sentences, such as “Natural disaster resembles/is like………, because………” Content analysis technique was used for analyzing the data. According to the findings obtained from the study, the prospective teachers came up with 56 valid metaphors about the concept of natural disaster. Those metaphors were gathered in nine different categories depending on their common characteristics (n=9). The result of the study reveals that the metaphors regarding natural disaster fall mostly in the category of “damaging and destroying.” Besides, the most preferred metaphors by the participants were destruction, disaster, death and human.
