Abstract:

The province of Mamuratül-Aziz, founded in 1878, consists of 16  accidents and 3 crimes. The present boundaries of the province include a large part of the provinces of Elazığ, Malatya, Adıyaman and Tunceli. In the Ottoman era, these settlements have been counted many times, even in the context of different administrative structures. The 1893 count is only one of these counts. The 1893 census is a very important census covering the whole of the Ottoman country. In particular, the errors and deficiencies in the counts made in 1881-1882 were tried to be solved in this population census. Based on the results of the 1893 census, there are different administrative structures or examinations of the empire population. However, none of the studies we have reached, the population of the Mamuratül-Aziz province of 1893, has been discussed. This study which we can accept originally in this direction was based on the data in an population chart on 28 May 1893. In this census, the population is classified as female, male, Muslim, and non-Muslims are Armenian, Armenian Catholic, Protestant, Syriac, Syriac Catholic, Greek and Latin. In addition to the   population records in this chart, the documents in various archive categories have also been referred to as needed. Numerical data are supported with tables as needed. At the beginning of the work, the Ottoman censuses and the reliability of these censuses are emphasized. In the headings of the development section, the administrative structure of the Mamuratül-Aziz province, the population and ethnic structure of the province according to the 1893 censuses and the censuses have been established. In the conclusion section, the data given in the text are evaluated.
