Özet:

Goal: Oral and dental health (ADS) problems are a major public health issue that is widely seen in the world. This study aims to evaluate the knowledge of the students of the University of Nine September (DEU) Health Services Professional High School (SHMYO) on oral and dental health. Tools and Methods: It is a cutting-edge type research, which was conducted among DEU SHMYO students between 10.03.2018-31.03.2018. A survey was conducted to the students who were questioned about their socio-demographic characteristics, oral hygiene habits, and the level of knowledge about oral dental health. The data was collected under surveillance with the help of the survey form. Identifying data were given as percentage distribution. In the resolution; in the comparison of the average in the data that provide parametric test conditions, the t test was used in the comparison of the average in the data that cannot provide parametric test conditions, the Mann-Whitney U test. For statistical significance, the value p<0.05 was considered meaningful. Results: 440 students (69.1 percent girls, 30.9 percent boys) who studied in the first and second classes at SHMYO participated in the study and the age range of students is 17-30 (medium 19.64 ± 8.24). 47.2 percent of students are low, 45.3 percent medium, and 7.5 percent have a high socioeconomic level. The student’s level of knowledge about ADS was estimated at 31.8%. The correct response rate to the ADS questions of the students and the gender, age-parent education, income status, the program he learns, class is not statistically determined, while the level of knowledge of the students who go to the dental examination twice a year is statistically meaningful (p<0.017). The result: DEU SHMYO students have been shown to have middle and low levels of knowledge about ADS. In the analysis; t - test was used in comparing the average data of parametric test results and the Mann-Whitney U test was used to compare the data that're not providing the parametric test conditions. A p-value of 0. 5 was considered significant for statistical significance. Results: 440 (69.1% female, 30.9% male) students studying at first and second grade in SHMYO participated in the study, and the age range of students was 17-30 (mean 19.64± 8.24). 47.2% of the students have a low level, 45.3% have a medium level and 7.5% have a high level of socioeconomic status. Students' level of knowledge about ODH was determined as 31.8%. While the statistically significant difference was not found between the correct response rate of the students to the ODH questions and the gender, age, parental education, income status, the program they read, the level of knowledge of the students who went to the dental exam twice, was found statistically significant, (p <0.017), respectively. Conclusion: DEU SHMYO students' level of knowledge about ODH was moderate and low. Keywords: Oral dental health, students, Health Services Vocational School
