Abstract:

The United States moved its embassy from Tel-Aviv to Jerusalem on May 14, 2018. This incident took place after US President Donald Trump’s announcement that he recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel on December 6, 2017 and his decision to move the American embassy in Tel-Aviv to Jerusalem. Trump stated that while making this decision, he fulfilled the requirement of the law made by the US Congress in 1995. However, the first question springing to mind is what the reason for Trump to sign the aforementioned law every six months might be, despite the fact that the law was postponed by the previous US Presidents. The main purpose of this study is to investigate the reasons behind this decision, which draws a great reaction from the world public opinion and has brought a new dimension to the controversial structure of the Middle East. The study primarily addresses the importance of Jerusalem which is considered to be associated with this decision and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in brief. In the analysis of the decision, the effects of Evangelicalism and other groups, Trump’s leadership profile and developments in the American domestic policy and US policies in the region were observed distinctly.
