Nomophobia can be expressed as modern-day addiction. Its most critical psychological predictors are personality, emotional intelligence, social skills, adaptability, self-esteem, smoking, alcohol and drug consumption, other accompanying psychopathologies, and gender and socioeconomic status (Bragazzi and Del Puente, 2001). Based on the studies revealing the susceptibility of individuals with low emotional intelligence to addiction types, it is considered that the probability of experiencing nomophobia, which refers to a different kind of addiction, is also high. Starting from that point, this study was carried out to examine the relationship between emotional intelligence and nomophobia in university students. Accordingly, the data obtained through a questionnaire from 258 students studying at universities in Ankara were analyzed. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) of each variable was performed with the AMOS program. In order to reveal the relationship between variables and test the hypotheses, correlation analysis and hierarchical regression analysis have been carried out. According to the findings, the emotional intelligence level of university students has significant effects on nomophobia. In this context, it has been concluded that emotional intelligence is negatively related to nomophobia. In the light of the findings, suggestions have been presented for university students and education sector administrators on the subject.
