This study aims to reveal a scientific approach to the use and protection of masks in the COVID-19 pandemic by conducting a rapid systematic scan of the use of masks in COVID-19. In the framework of the scanning strategy created, the scanning was done in the specified time range and with keywords and 27 articles were included in the work. According to the studies included, masks, use environments and the persons for use are different, but their protection levels, respectively, are N95 and similar (such as FFP2, FFP 3) masks, surgical/medical masks and non-medical (such as polypropylene, cotton, polyester, cellulose, silk) masks. The conclusion is that the mask provides the expected protection along with physical distance and hygiene; the findings, discussions and recommendations for the use of the mask, the existing scientific evidence, the potential sources and types of the mask, the up-to-date information for the use of the mask and the published recommendations should be continued to be updated periodically, depending on the new evidence coming in the process.
