Introduction: The prevalence of overweight and obesity has become importance of epidemic around the world. In Brazil, it increases more in the population of low income. Several factors can contribute, such as: the genetic, social and cultural factors, among others. Purpose: To review the scientific literature on the treatment of obesity through food reeducation. Literature review: The different locations of the adipose tissue have metabolic and endocrine level differentiated, interfering in a specific way in the processes inherent in the body adiposity. Dates on feeding of Brazilians show that the population consumes many foods that are high in sugar - especially refresher - and low amounts of fruits and vegetables. The transition food comes to explain this change in habits in the low income population. The adipose tissue is a major endocrine organ that secrete several hormones called cytokines, which characterize the obese as an individual inflamed. The proposal of food reeducation for the people of low income should be linked to the practice of physical exercise, leisure and socialization. Conclusion: It is vital that the public power takes the issue of obesity as a public health problem.
