In this study, the effects on the surface smoothness and cutting forces of the cutting ends with different shrinking shapes in the freezing of the AISI 1040 steel in the CNC straight processing center were studied. Experimental studies were carried out at four cutting speeds (150, 225, 300, 375 m/min), three advance quantities (0.05, 0.1, 0.15 mm/dent) and 1 mm cutting depth. As a result of the experiments, the best surface smoothness values and the lowest cutting power values were obtained with cutting sets with the R390-11 T3 08E-PL 1030 code-cutting shape. Surface smoothness increased with the increase in progress for all cutting machines in general, decreased with the increase in cutting speed. The cutting forces increased with the increase in progress values, with the increase in cutting speeds.
In this study, the effects of different chip breaker forms on the surface roughness and cutting forces were investigated in milling of AISI 1040 steel at CNC vertical machining center. Experimental studies were performed at four cutting speeds (150, 225, 300, 375 m/min), three feed rates (0.05, 0.1, 0.15 mm/tooth) and 1 mm depth of cut. As a result of the experiments, the best surface roughness values and the lowest cutting force values were obtained with cutting tools having chip breaker form R390-11 T3 08E-PL 1030. Surface roughness was increased for all cutting tools with the increase in feed rate and decreased with increasing cutting speed. In addition, it was observed that cutting force increases with the increase in feed rate and decreases with the decrease in cutting speed.
