Abstract:

Atopy is defined as the genetic propensity to develop IgE antibodies in response to exposure to allergens, which may contribute to the development of the clinical disorders and assessed by skin prick test (SPT) responses to common allergens. It is generally agreed that atopy is an important risk factor for allergic diseases such as asthma, and rhinitis. The aim of this study is to determine the food allergy in children with asthma and rhinitis. Seventy children (3 to 12 years) were skin prick tested to evaluate the food allergy 18 kind of foods common in the Turkish diet. Although there are no SPT reactivity in control group, twelve percent of the children with rhinitis and 20 % of the children with asthma had positive SPT reactivity results to food allergen. Only one patient had food-related wheezing.
