Ahlaki kötülük ve onun nihai nedenine ilişkin tartışma etik, ahlak ve din felsefenin kadim tartışmalarından biridir. Bu tartışmanın bir tarafı olarak Leibniz de –Pope ile birlikte– ahlaki optimizm düşüncesi ortaya koyar. Tanrısal aklı, istemeyi ve planı göz önünde bulunduran ama aynı zamanda mantıksal ilkelere sıkıcı bağlı kalmaya çalışan Leibniz için Tanrı, her-şeye-gücü-yeten, en iyi ve her şeyi bilendir; dolayısıyla mümkün dünyaları göz önünde bulundurarak bu dünyalar arasından en iyisini yaratmış olması gerekir. Voltaire bu felsefi iyimserliğe karşı çıkar. Özellikle kötülüğün deneyimi ile yaygınlığı ve onun nihai nedeninin sınırlı insan aklı için bilinemez oluşu önemli karşı çıkış noktalarıdır. Bu anlamda Leibniz’in düşüncelerini eserlerinde hicveder. Bu çalışmada kötülük bağlamında Leibniz düşünceleri ve Voltaire’in buna yönelik eleştirileri tartışılmıştır.
The debate on moral evil and its final cause is one of the ancient discussions of ethical, moral and religious philosophy. As part of this discussion, Leibniz also – together with Pope – raises the idea of moral optimism. For the divine mind, which takes into account the desire and the plan but also tries to be tired of the logical principles, God is all-to-all-powerful, best and all-know; therefore, he must have created the best of these worlds, taking into account the possible worlds. Voltaire opposes this philosophical optimism. Specifically, the prevalence of evil with the experience and its final cause are important counterpoints of unknownness to the limited human mind. In this sense, Leibniz’s thoughts are reflected in his works. This study discussed the ideas of Leibniz in the context of evil and Voltaire’s criticism of it.
