Dünya Edebiyatı’nda kısa hikâyenin çok yakın bir dönemde ortaya çıktığı bilinmektedir. 19. yüzyılın ikinci yarısında Amerikalı yazarlar tarafından ortaya konulan bu edebi tür, Rus yazarlar tarafından dünya çapında yayılmaya başlamıştır. Kısa hikâye türünün Arap ülkelerinde ilk örneği, 1917 yılında Muhammed Teymûr tarafından neşredilen Trende (fi’l-Kıtâr) isimli eserdir. Birçok Arap ülkesinde olduğu gibi Ürdün’de de kısa hikâye türünde eserler yazan edebiyatçılar 1940’lı yıllardan itibaren görülmeye başlamıştır. Gazete ve dergi gibi yayın organlarında yayımlanan kısa hikâyeler, Ürdün edebiyatında kısa hikâyenin ilk nüvelerini oluşturmaktadır. Abdurrahman Yâġî, Nebil Haddâd, Hüsnü Ferîz, Îsâ en-Nâûrî, Mahmûd Seyfeddin el-Îrânî, Mahmûd Teymûr, Cemâl Ebû Hemdân, Mu’nis er-Rezzâz, Subhî Şahrûr, Gâlib Helesâ, Fahrî Kı‘vâr, İbrahîm Nasrallah, Meryem Cebir Ferîha ve İbrâhim el-Absî gibi hikâye yazarlarının hikâyelerini, çeşitli dergi ve gazetelerde yayımladıkları görülmektedir.
It is known that the short story in world literature appeared in a very near time. This literary genre, which was revealed by American writers in the second half of the 19th century, began to spread worldwide by Russian writers. The first example of the short story genre in the Arab countries is the work called Trende (fi'l-Kıtâr) which was re-covered by Muhammad Teymur in 1917. In Jordan, as in many Arab countries, the writers who write short stories have begun to be seen since the 1940s. The short stories published in the publishing bodies such as newspapers and magazines are the first core of the short story in Jordan literature.
