Sinema filmlerinin bir eğlence aracı olarak kabulü ile başlayan süreçte birçok fonksiyona da sahip olması sinema filmlerinin denetlenmesini zorunlu hale getirmiştir. Günümüzde sinema filmlerinin denetlenmesi, 5224 sayılı Sinema Filmlerinin Değerlendirilmesi ve Sınıflandırılması ile Desteklenmesi Hakkında Kanunun bir yeniliği olan değerlendirme ve sınıflandırma kavramı içerisinde tanımlanmaktadır. 5224 sayılı Sinema Filmlerinin Değerlendirilmesi ve Sınıflandırılması ile Desteklenmesi Hakkında Kanun, 21 Temmuz 2004 tarihinde resmî gazetede yayınlanarak yürürlüğe girmiştir. 5224 sayılı Kanun ile sinema filmlerine yapılacak denetim, Kültür ve Turizm Bakanlığı bünyesinde oluşturulan Değerlendirme ve Sınıflandırma Kurulu ile alt kurullar tarafından gerçekleştirilmektedir.
The fact that cinema films have many functions in the process that started with the acceptance of cinema films as a means of entertainment has made the supervision of cinema films compulsory. Today, the supervision of cinema films is defined in the concept of evaluation and classification, which is an innovation of the Law No.5224 on the Evaluation and Classification and Support of Cinema Movies. Law No.5224 on the Evaluation, Classification and Support of Motion Picture Films entered into force after being published in the Official Gazette on 21 July 2004. Pursuant to Law No.5224, the supervision of cinema films is carried out by the Evaluation and Classification Board and sub-committees established within the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
