Abstract:

Introduction and Purpose: Parcial epilepsy is a type of stroke, and some patients may not have sufficient control of the stroke despite monotherapy and even polytherapy. Our aim in this study is to compare the effectiveness and side effects of levetirasetam or zonisamid additive therapies in patients who have not been provided with carbamazepin monotherapy and stroke control. Method and method: 18-54 years old, 32 patients followed with carbamazepine monotherapy for less than 1 year were taken to study. 16 of these patients were added to zonisamid and 16 to levetirasetam. Patients were monitored for 3 months so that they were kept in a fixed titration after adhesive treatment. Results: The average age of the group added to Zonisamid was 33.4±10.6 (7 men, 9 women), while the levetirasetam group was 35.7±11,5 (8 men, 8 women). When the 3 month monitoring period was assessed in terms of the total number of attacks, there was no statistically significant difference between the two groups in terms of activity and side effects (p=0.377). The result: Levetirasetam or zonisamid is similarly effective in adjuvant therapies of partial attacks and can be used in patients who are unable to control the attacks because the profile of side effects is also low.
