Abstract:

This study aims to reveal the contribution of the Seven Islands to the 1821 Greek Rebellion. The Seven Islands, the largest island of Kefalonia, has many traces of civilizations due to its strategic location throughout history. On the islands first Venice, then the French and British domination made it possible for a different cultural and economic structure from the continental Greece. With the nationalism flow, which was consciously encouraged during the French rule, the islands played an important role in the Greek Rebellion as a result of military training given to the island people and to the Greek thieves who fled from Mora during the British rule. Colocotronis, a leader of the Greek Azians, practiced the Western-style war training he received in the Seven Islands against the Ottoman State in Mora. Considering that the author of the Greek National Marathon, Dionisios Solomos, also lives on these islands and has written his marathon on the island of Zakintos, it can be said that the Seven Islands stand out as an important military, logistics and cultural center for Greece both before and during the rebellion.
