In this study, a new PID controller design for closed loop fiber optic gyroscope systems was performed. The PID controller coefficients were determined by using the gravity search algorithm. The algorithm has minimized the error of tracking the angular velocity variations of the fiberoptic gyroscope. The designed gyroscope system was tested numerically with a computer and the response of the gyroscope to angular velocity variations was analyzed. The results showed that the angular velocity can be measured with very high precision by the synthesis of the PID controller. The proposed synthesis method can produce successful results in PID synthesis in many different systems not only for fiber optic gyroscopes but also for closed loop.
