Pain is one of the most frequent reason that patients seek help from health care professionals. The nurses’ and physicians’ beliefs about the patients’ responses to pain may effects their decisions regarding pain control. The aim of this descriptive study was to explore the effect of the patients’ age and gender on nurses’ and physicians’ beliefs about the patients’ responses to pain. The sample of the study consisted of 62 physicians and 135 nurses working in Urology, Orthopedics and Traumatology, Internal Medicine, and General Surgery Clinics at Ege University Research and Practice Hospital and Tülay Aktaş Oncology and Transplantation Hospital. It was determine that patients’ age and gender affect of nurses’ and physicians’ beliefs about the patients’ responses to pain, but there was no significant difference between nurses’ and physicians’ beliefs. Further studies are needed to evaluate the impact of age and gender of the patients on nurses’ and physicians’ beliefs about the patients’ responses to pain
