Eski Türk edebiyatında, gazel nazım şeklinde görülen ve daha çok gazelin şeklî yapısıyla ilgili olan uygulamalardan biri de redd-i matladır. Redd-i matla, gazelin ilk beyti olan matla beytindeki mısralardan birinin gazelin son beyti olan makta beytinin ikinci mısraında tekrarlanması suretiyle yapılır. Bu makalede 15. yüzyıldan başlayarak 18. yüzyıla kadar geçen süre içerisinde, Divan şiirinde edebî kişilikleriyle ön plâna çıkmış on beş şairin gazelleri taranmış, redd-i matlaya yer verilen gazeller tespit edilmiş ve bu tespitler grafikler yardımıyla değerlendirilmiştir. Ayrıca Divan şiirinin klâsik ve Sebk-i Hindî gibi iki önemli üslûbunun temsilcisi durumundaki bu şairlerin redd-i matlayı kullanma yönündeki tercihlerinin karşılaştırmalı tahlilleri yapılmıştır.
