The most commonly used technique for strengthening of reinforced concrete beams from two faces, which are insufficient under the vertical loads is to add a new concrete layer carrying new longitudinal reinforcement. Although the behavior of the strengthened reinforced concrete beams with this method under the monotonic or repetitive loads is known, the behavior under the seismic loads is not clear yet. The objective of this study is not to search for a new strengthening method for seismic loads. In this study, the behavior of the reinforced concrete beams, strengthened for some other reasons by adding a new layer technique, has been investigated under the reversal cyclic loading that simulates seismic loads. The effects of various anchoring methods of new layer bars, on the behavior and strength of the beams has also been studied. At the end of this research it was observed that, reinforced concrete beams strengthened by adding a new layer technique had a good behavior under the reversal cyclic loads.
