Abstract:

Since the beginning of humanity precious and semi-precious gems that are of great interest in human life, have become the research subject of many disciplines. Works have been produced in this area since antique era. In Ottoman prose there are many cevher-name (book for precious stones) especially those translated from Arabic and Persian. When the individual cevher-names are examined, it is seen that some of them have parts which are related to "magnet" and that the magnet is included in the category of precious stones or -semi precious stones. Furthermore, the work that is the subject of our study is a two-gold leafs (original name: varak) epistle. In this work from19th century, the financial and moral benefits and effects of the magnet stone are explained. This work is about the epistle called “Havâs-ı Mıknatıs” which is included in the work called” Terceme-i Havâs Biberiye” where Zeki Ali is indicated as the writer and Şakir Şükrü Uşşakî al-Bursevî as the scribal in the Ankara National Library Adnan Ötüken Provincial Public Library Collection in the copy numbered as 06 Hk 4327/3. The work is formed with four sections. In the first section, information about the work and its content, in the second section, the translation of the text, the simplified form of the text in the third section, and the glossary of terms in the fourth section are given.
