Abstract According to the information given by the Population Reference Bureau in 2000, it is shown that the AIDS epidemic affects the population all over the world making no distinction in age, sex or religion. Nearly half of the people that contract the disease are under 25 years old. Over the 90% of the children under 15 years old that contract the illness are born from women already infected. The women can transmit the sickness during the pregnancy or in childbirth and by breastfeeding. During the course of the epidemic, the AIDS have left 11.2 million of children without parents. Even though some medical treatments can extend the life of the patient, a cure hasn? t been found yet. And Cuba is not out of this cruel reality. This research, related to the population diagnosed as having HIV, is been made by the Center of Demographic Studies along with the Faculty of Geography and the Statistics Office in Havana. It covers two periods: from 1986 to 1996 and from 1997 to 2007. The results presented in this article are preliminary and refer to the first period. In order to make a better spatial analysis of the information iven by Provincial Center of HIV/AIDS Prevention, the province was divided into three groups: North, Center and Periphery. In the period from 1986 to 1996 in Havana, there were 651 people diagnosed, the 76% were males and the 24% were females. Out of the total of the population diagnosed, the 66% claimed to be homo-bisexuals whereas the 34% were heterosexuals. The majority of the people infected were of white complexion. Most of them were bachelors. That is why this disease can represent a socio- demographic and environmental vulnerability
