Abstract:

The aim of this study is to identify the misconceptions of high school 6th grade students on the subject of cuts. All the false concepts in literature and not have been revealed and the students have been trying to determine what the false concepts in the subject of cuts are. The study’s sample consists of 114 students who are studying in the 6th grade in a secondary school in Istanbul. The appropriate sampling method is used, which is selected from easily accessible units. The scan model has been used for the purpose of revealing a situation that exists in the research. As a data collection tool, an open-end test consisting of 10 questions has been developed. Student answers are interpreted by percentage and frequency values using the visual statistical method. When the test was scored, the answers were studied in three categories correctly, incorrectly and emptyly, and these categories were analyzed using the method of content analysis. The student's wrong answers to each question are thoroughly examined. As a result of the data analysis, the types of errors that students experience the most difficult and misunderstood are identified as: the number is zero part, the whole referred to in cuts is unable to determine, the number is zero part, and the process of cuts in cuts.
