Abstract:

With the increasing use of the internet in recent years, the security of digitalized data has become very important. Failure to ensure the security of this data causes material and moral losses. For this reason, it is very important to carry out studies to increase awareness of digital information security. In this study, it was tried to determine the digital information security awareness of academicians working at universities. Participants consist of academicians working at two state universities in Malatya. The “Digital Data Security Awareness Scale” prepared by Yılmaz (2015) was used to collect the data. The scale was sent to the participants online and the data were collected digitally. The collected data were transferred to a package program and analyzed. The results of the research show that the digital information security awareness of the participants is sufficient and the awareness levels of male participants are higher than female participants. In addition, it was observed that the participants and lecturers with professional experience between 1-5 years had higher awareness than the other participants. In addition to these results, it was seen that the participants with longer average internet usage time had higher awareness. In addition, while the participants were found to be highly aware of the fact that the one-time password login to their mobile phone increases security, it was seen that they did not have enough knowledge about firewall software.
