Abstract:

In this study, "Berobana", a village spectacle play that has been tried to be performed traditionally, especially in recent years, was introduced in the Kocabey Village of Şavşat district of Artvin province. The aim of the study is to determine the playing time and place, structure, fiction, actor features of Berobana played in Kocabey Village of Şavşat district in Artvin province, and to determine the functions of the play in social life with the motifs thought to take place in the play and contribute to the cultural transfer by promoting the play.to accomplish these aims, the related data is gathered about the game was collected by scanning the written sources, using observation and interview methods. Artvin city Şavşat district is preferred in this study because especially the village people of Kocabey have tried to keep this tradition alive. The analysis reveals that the play which is performed at Christmas time mostly includes various traces of ancient Turkish culture have been seen in the context of Shamanism and Turkish mythology. The data puts forward that the play fulfills the four functions of folklore in functional terms along with taking attention with its peculiar fiction and structure compared to other plays.
