Sürekli değişen ve gelişen el sanatları; bir toplumun beğenisi, duygusal tepkisi ve kültürünü oluşturan ve oluşturmaya devam edecek olan mekanizmalarının yansıtılmasıdır. Buna göre geleneksel el sanatları; yapıldığı döneme kadarki bir ulusun izlerini taşıyan, ticari kaygı ya da estetik adına tümüyle bir sanatçı elinden çıkan sanatsal eserler bütünüdür. Geleneksel Türk el sanatları ise süregelmiş Türk kültürüne ait sanatlar ve uygulama tekniklerinin tamamını kapsamaktadır.
Kültür Bakanlığı’nın kültürel miras çatısı altında bu zamana kadarki oluşturduğu kayıtlara göre Geleneksel Türk el sanatları; dokuma, giysi, işleme ve süsleme sanatları adı altında 4 başlıkta toplanmıştır. Yapılan geleneksel sanatsal tekniklerin kalıcılığı ve sonraki nesillere aktarımı adına bu önemlidir. Bu başlıklara göre, tüm geleneksel Türk el sanatlarına ait teknikler birleştirilmiştir. Teorik olarak bu noktaya getirilen el sanatlarımızın yükseköğrenimdeki eğitimi anlamında ise birkaç tekniğin eğitimiyle sınırlı kalınmaktadır. Sayısal verilere göre, Türkiye genelinde 2022 yılı itibariyle (Geleneksel) El Sanatları adı altında 2 lisans ve yaklaşık 30 kadar ön lisans düzeyde eğitim veren üniversitelerde; Halı-Kilim Dokuma, Örgü, Nakış, Tezhip ve Minyatür branşlarında dersler verilmekte, bunun dışında kalan el sanatlarımız ise neredeyse yer almamaktadır.
Geleneksel el sanatlarımızın eğitimindeki bu eksiklik son yıllarda yine el sanatlarına ait teknik ve uygulamaların isimleriyle bölümler açılarak giderilmeye başlamış; fakat yeterli düzeye ulaşmadığı da görülmektedir. Buna örnek olarak geleneksel el sanatlarımızdan olan kuyumculuk-takı tasarımı bunlardan sadece biridir. Buna göre geleneksel el sanatlarımızdan kuyumculuk sanatına ait eğitimler veren 4 devlet ve 1 vakıf olmak üzere; Takı Teknolojisi ve Tasarımı ile Kuyumculuk ve Mücevherat Tasarımı adıyla lisans düzeyinde 5 bölüm, Kuyumculuk ve Takı Tasarımı adıyla 20’den fazla ön lisans düzeyinde bölüm yer almaktadır. Lisans düzeyinde eğitim veren 2 üniversite özel yetenekle öğrenci kabul etmektedir.
Lisans düzeyinde eğitimin Geleneksel El Sanatları çatısı altında ana bilim dalı olarak açılamama sebebi olarak, açılmak istenen diğer geleneksel branşlar bazında öğretim üyesi eksikliği ya da yeterli fiziki koşulların oluşturulamaması gibi kaygılar/nedenler gösterilebilir.
Continuously changing and developing crafts are the reflection of a society's pleasure, emotional reaction and mechanisms that form and will continue to create its culture. According to this, traditional crafts are the whole of art works that carry the traces of a nation until the time it was made, which, in the name of commercial concerns or aesthetics, are completely out of the hands of an artist. Traditional Turkish craftsmanship covers all the arts and practical techniques of the continued Turkish culture.
Under the cultural heritage roof of the Ministry of Culture, according to the records that it has formed until now, Traditional Turkish crafts have been gathered in 4 titles under the name of textile, clothing, processing and decoration arts. This is important for the durability of the traditional artistic techniques made and its transfer to the next generations. According to these titles, all the techniques belonging to traditional Turkish crafts are combined. Theoretically, in the sense of high school education of our crafts, which is brought to this point, is limited to the training of several techniques. As a reason that education at the bachelor level cannot be opened as the main branch of science under the roof of the Traditional Handicraft, there may be concerns/causes such as the lack of faculty members or the failure to create adequate physical conditions on the basis of other traditional branches to be opened.

According to the numerical data, as of 2022, in the universities that provide 2 undergraduate and approximately 30 associate degree education under the name of (Traditional) Handicrafts; Classes are given in the branches of Carpet-Kilim Weaving, Knitting, Embroidery, Illumination and Miniature, and our handicrafts are almost absent.
In recent years, this deficiency in the education of our traditional handicrafts has started to be eliminated by opening sections with the names of techniques and applications of handicrafts, but it is seen that it has not reached a sufficient level. As an example, jewelry-jewelery design, one of our traditional handicrafts, is just one of them. Accordingly, 4 state and 1 foundation providing training on the art of jewellery, one of our traditional handicrafts; There are 5 undergraduate level departments under the name of Jewelry Technology and Design and Jewelery and Jewelery Design departments, and more than 20 associate degree departments under the name of Jewelery and Jewelry Design. Two universities that provide undergraduate education accept students with special talents.
Concerns/reasons such as the lack of faculty members on the basis of other traditional branches or the inability to create sufficient physical conditions can be cited as the reason why undergraduate education cannot be opened as a major under the umbrella of Traditional Handicrafts.
