Özet:

During the period stretching from the 14th to the end of the 18th century –which, to a certain degree, extends to the following century as well, despite the stabilisation of ethnic states–, the sovereignty of the geographical areas of Macedonia, Epirus, Central Greece, the Ionian Islands, Crete and the Peloponnese was subject to constant dispute. In other words they were in constant conditions of war.Under these conditions, that is to say constant war, it is to be expected that the social groups, which could conduct such war either directly or indirectly by financing it, acquire a distinct social face value, since their social function is essential in this. The position that they occupy next to the formal power echelons, allows them to re-negotiate their social and political power for securing or renewing or expanding their privileges.
