Pozitivizm ve materyalizm, Batı’nın Ortaçağ karanlığını yaşamasına sebep olan skolastik düşüncenin çözülerek, aklın bilimin ışığında yeniden gelişmesine olanak sağlayan en etkili düşünce sistemleri olur. Bilhassa pozitivizm ve pozitif bilimler 19. yüzyılın sonlarından itibaren Türk aydınının zihniyet değiştirmesinde de en etkili unsur olarak ön plana çıkar. Tanzimat’la birlikte başlayan hızlı toplumsal değişim süreci, bu dönemden itibaren birtakım ciddi toplumsal çatışmalara da sebep olur. Bu dönemde yeniliklere ve modern fikirlere zihinlerini kapatan kesim geleneksel birtakım alışkanlıklarına zaman zaman kutsallık yüklemeye başladığında, bu durum birtakım toplumsal çatışmaları ve problemleri de beraberinde getirir. Türk toplumunun dini hassasiyetlerinin farkında olan kimi çıkar odakları, halkın bu zaafını kullanarak kendilerine maddi ve manevi kazançlar elde etmeyi yüzyıllar boyuncu sürdürmüşlerdir. Bu doğrultuda toplumun dini bilinç kazanmalarının önündeki en büyük engeller de yine bu çıkarcı kesimler olmuştur. Pozitif fikirlerin zihniyetlerinde belirgin biçimde etkili olmaya başladığı 19. yüzyıl sonlarından itibaren, dini baskıların ve hurafelerin, toplumsal ilerleme önündeki en büyük engel olduğuna kanaat getiren Türk aydınları, toplumu bilinçlendirmek amacıyla bu dönemden itibaren ciddi bir çaba sarf ederler. Bu sebepten dolayı, taassup ve batıl inançların sebep olduğu toplumsal aksaklıklar, dönemin edebi eserlerine ciddi bir malzeme teşkil eder. Ömer Seyfettin, bu fikre öncülük eden ve hikâyelerinde taassup ve batıl inancın yol açtığı yıkımları alaylı biçimde işleyen etkili bir yazardır. Bu çalışmada Ömer Seyfettin’in taassup ve batıl inanç konusunu merkeze alarak çoğu kez alaylı biçimde eleştirdiği hikâyeleri analiz edilerek, yazarın konu hakkındaki düşünceleri ortaya konulmaya çalışılmıştır.
Positivism and materialism become the most effective thinking systems that allow the mind to re-develop in the light of science by dissolving the classical thought that led the West to the Middle Ages' darkness. In particular, positivism and positive sciences, from the end of the 19th century, are also the most effective element in the change of mind of the Turkish light. The rapid process of social change that begins with Tanzimat, from this period, will also lead to a number of serious social conflicts. During this period, when the part that closed its minds to innovations and modern ideas begins to load holiness from time to time to a number of traditional habits, this situation brings together a number of social conflicts and problems. Some interest centres, who are aware of the religious sensitivities of the Turkish society, have continued to use this weakness of the people for centuries to obtain their material and spiritual profits. In this direction, the greatest obstacles to the gain of religious awareness of the society were again these outgoing sections. Since the end of the 19th century, when positive ideas began to become clearly effective in their minds, the Turkish glorifers, who have insisted that religious pressures and hurafes are the greatest obstacle to social progress, have made a serious effort from this period in order to awareness society. For this reason, the social misconduct caused by the taassup and false beliefs is a serious material for the literary works of the time. Omer Seyfettin is an influential writer who is the leader of this idea and who in his stories deals with the destruction caused by the false faith in a ridiculous way. In this study, Omer Seyfettin focused on the topic of taassup and false belief, analysing the stories he often criticized in a ridiculous way, the writer’s thoughts on the subject were tried to be revealed.
