Abstract:

The political and idealogical shifts caused a new world order at the end of the World War II. When the first half of the 20th century ended, the world was reshaped under the bipolar power balance controlled by the United States of America(USA) and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics(USSR), the era which is called as “the Cold War”. While the global system was changing, Turkey was in a political and social transition, too. In Turkey, the Democrat Party (DP), which came into power with 1950 elections which constitutes a critical milestone for multi-party system, followed a different path in foreign policy as in many other fields. The foreign policy, as an abstract concept on the Western world side, became more concrete on the USA side. As the interest to the Middle East given by the USA increased, so the importance of Turkey in this manner, the foreign policy followed by Turkey sat on more solid base. However, the USA sided foreign policy that started with the Truman Doctrine and the Marshall Plan and reached to the top level with the Eisenhower Doctrine resulted in economical and security issues for Turkey, even tough it seemed A reasonable policy to follow in that context. In this work, in the framework of Eisenhower Doctrine, the foreign policy in the era of DP is discussed in scope of “identity-security-economy” titels, handling with international relations theories and historical practises.
