Özet:

The concept of nature has a significant function in Islamic thought. Especially in issues related to morality, the concept of nature expresses a set of characteristics of human beings. These characteristics present an unchanging permanent structure of the human or the issues possible to change that stem from creation. Nature has been considered by some thinkers as equivalent to the concepts of temperament or disposition. It is reasonable to assert that the perspectives based on the concept of temperament emphasize some elements that are accepted to be specifically in humans. However, acknowledging the existence of these elements that are accepted to consist in the creation of human beings, causes problems in terms of the moral existence of human beings. And the concept of disposition has been thought to be synonymous with nature. In this article, the meaning and quality of the concept of nature, which has an important role in the moral understanding of Imam Mâturîdî (dd. 333/944), is examined. Thus, I first attempt to determine how he understands human nature and the morality of human beings that primarily depends on this nature. And second, try to clarify the concept of nature and demonstrate the dissimilarity between nature and these two other concepts temperament and disposition in the expressions of Mâturîdî. Last, I will discuss the place of nature in terms of its forming the basis for morality.
