Abstract:

In this research, which is under the umbrella of social memory and media, a critical reading of unkown perperator who lived in Turkey in the 90’s was made through the space/buffer. In the research, the dialectical relations between the empty signifier and the master signifier were revealed, and it was traced in Turkey’s practice of remembering through media materials. The main purpase of the research within the scope of this stalking process is to contribute to democratization with the criticism of the violence phenomenon made visible through the states of otherness and identity conflicts created in Turkey and to reveal the role that the mainstream media has or has not assumed. In this context, the qualilative design waz used in the research, and the headline news in the mainstream newspapers of the perios were subjected to qualilative descriptive analysis,together with Lacan’s matrix showing the master signifier,within the framework of purposive sampling. In the research,with the aim of reaching the resultant of social memory,the cartoons which were determined within the framework of purposive sampling in the alternative media of the period, The Limon and The Leman,were analyzed with Barthes’s studium modeling and seniotic analysis. Within the findings obtained, secular/intellectual - conservative/radical Islamic otherness and Kurdish/left ideology/intellectual - nationalist/conservative/radical Islamic otherness, alevi/left-ideology/intellectual - nationalist/conservative/radical Islamic otherness and Kurdish/left ideology/intellectual in the axis of otherness nationalist/Turkish/conservative otherness was seen. Turkey’s violence-lynching topology was created and presented as a critical reading model within the framework of critical reading for the presentation of news in tje mainstream media through these otherness.
