Abstract:

In this study, the predictive role of emotional abuse experienced by high school students on school refusal was investigated. In addition, whether school refusal scores vary by gender and grade was examined. The study group consisted of 324 students from three different high schools in Dinar district of Afyonkarahisar. In the study, School Refusal Assessment Scale and Perceived Psychological Abuse Scale for Adolescents were used as data collection tools. According to the findings of the study, it was determined that students' school refusal scores did not vary by their grade and gender. It was determined that there was a significant positive relationship between the scores of the school refusal scale and the scores of the perceived emotional abuse from the parents scale. According to the results of regression analysis, it was found that perceived emotional abuse from both mother and father significantly predicted school refusal scores and explained 15% of the variance in school refusal scores. Findings were discussed in the light of literature.
