Abstract:

This study is about the music of the play "My End is My Beginning" staged by Bursa State Theater in the 2021-2022 season. The aim is to analyze the music of the play 'My End is My Beginning', with original music added later, by using the 'Theatre Music Analysis Method' and to determine the relationship of the music with the play, its messages to the receiver and existence independent of the action. It is possible to evaluate the affinity of theater music with actions by approaching them through their existence, independent of the action and the perception of the audience. The music added to the piece 'My End is My Beginning' is almost like a milestone in the piece and plays a role as link between the subjects that are in constant flow by cross-sectioning the monolithic whole. The music, which has some kind of joints, gives an idea about the fragmented personality of the main character of the play, Yosun, her isolation from the society and many issues of her life. It also refers to the mythical and primitive with the music used in prologue and epilogue. The orchestra consists of piano, violin, cello, flute and percussion. Instruments depict themes such as 'death', 'fragmentation' in some songs. In addition, musical sentences with arpeggio, cello with melodies close to improvisation in low frets, the affinity between cello and violin, the cadences used, the flute heard with the mention of "snake" in the prologue are directly related to the character and layers of meaning in the play. It is thought that the study is guiding in terms of examining theater music.
