Abstract:

The aim of this study is to adapt the Burns Depression Scale, which is widely used worldwide. The scale consists of 25 substances and 4 sub-dimensions for the purpose of studying depressive symptoms. The scale, which was the original language in English, was first translated into Turkish. The study was carried out by a group of 40 students before the implementation of the scale. The final status of the scale was applied to 241 (159 women, 82 men) teachers candidates who studied at the Faculty of Education of Fırat University. The data obtained is subject to the Opening Factor Analysis (AFA). The AFA results showed that the scale has six factors that explain 64.2% of the total variance. It is also determined that the AFA result preserves the original substance number of the scale. The Cronbach Alfa ratio, calculated for the purpose of determining the reliability of the measurement, was identified as .92. After AFA, scale verifying factor analysis (DFA) was performed. DFA findings have shown that the six-factor structure of the scale has been confirmed. According to the findings of the study, the Burns Depression Measurement, which is adapted to the Turkish language, can be said to be a valid and reliable measurement tool in determining the symptoms and levels of depression in individuals.
