Abstract:

This study revealed the opinions of Turkish teachers about the reading habits. The research was done to reveal the read habits of high school students. For this purpose, the research is designed in the form of work. 22 Turkish teachers have been consulted to collect data on the subject. Talks with teachers were made face-to-face. Interviews with teachers have been analyzed. According to this, teachers have defined the reading habit as acquiring a constant and regular reading culture. According to them, reading habits have an impact on students’ academic achievements and socialization. Teachers are generally aware of the activities that can be carried out in classroom, school and outside school to acquire reading habits. They have recommended a variety of activities in classroom, school and outside school to give students a reading habit. In their reading habit, they pointed out that the school alone is not enough, and that the support of the family is important. It is also necessary to take into account their reading preferences and developmental characteristics in order for students to acquire reading habits. According to teachers, students read books to spend a pleasant time and improve themselves. But technology tools and social media prevent students from acquiring a reading habit.
