Abstract:

In this study, the input usage situation of wheat production in the Hatay province of Turkey was investigated. Hatay is one of the regions in Turkey with a high agricultural production potential. While field crops take up 53% of the total agricultural area in Hatay, cotton and wheat crops are the two main crops grown in the province. According to the data of 2021; in Hatay 247 960 tons of wheat was produced in a 540 988 da area, and this amount constitutes 1.38% of Turkey’s total wheat production. Within the research, a survey study was carried out with 104 enterprises in Hatay. According to the research results, it was determined that wheat production was realized in a total area of 16 539 da, and the average yield was found as 555 kg da-1. The average usage amounts of inputs in wheat production were as follows; seed usage: 28.87 kg da-1, pesticide usage (herbicide, fungicide, insecticide): 345.55 cc da-1, fertilizer usage per unit area: 72.34 kg da-1, diesel fuel usage (soil cultivation, fertilization, spraying and harvesting): 14.94 lt da-1, machine power usage: 1.34 h da-1, electric power usage for irrigation: 51.54 KW da-1 and diesel fuel usage for irrigation: 3.21 lt da-1. In addition, while 2.45 daily laborers were working per enterprise, the average number of days worked was determined as 7.9. In addition, it was found that the producers were generally satisfied with wheat production; however, in recent years they cut their input usage due to the increase of input costs.
