Abstract:

This study discussed the current state and capacity of the cultural fishing in the province of Van. Van is 20.921 square kilometers and equals 2.7 percent of the territory of Turkey. Geographically located in the Eastern Anadolu Region, Van is in the status of Metropolitan and has a total of 13 districts along with 3 central districts. The average elevation of the Van district center within the limits of the Van Lake closed pool is 1690 meters. In the northern part of Van is the Pair (Hamur Taşlıçay, Diyadin and Doğubeyazıt districts), in the south Siirt (Pervari districts), Şırnak (Beytüşşebap districts) and Hakkari districts, in the west the Pair's Patnos districts, Bitlis (Adilcevaz Tatvan and Hizan districts) and Van Lake, in the east Iran. The objective of this study is, in addition to determining the current state and capacity of cultural fishing in the province of Van, to develop the problems of the sector and suggestions for solutions to these problems. The production of cultural fish in the province of Van in 2000 rose to 917 tonnes, while 300 tonnes in 2010. The biggest production jump in all years occurred in 2012. In fact, in the previous year, the production of Nazaran increased by 757 tons (40.9%). Another feature of this year is that for the first time production exceeded 2000 tons. The growth trend came to the sector in 2014, but production has increased a little in the next two years. Since 2017, production has passed 2500 tons and production growth (although very little) continues to trend. In the work area, there are many suitable areas available in the hydrographic perspective. However, in general, it appears that the number of operations in comparison with the diversity of these hydrographic resources is very small. If you look at the districts based, it is seen that the most facilities with 15 facilities are in Chatak. This is followed by 12 locations with the Gulpınar district. The cultural fishing in the province of Van is at the level that will meet the fish needs of the entire region when its full potential is exploited. As of 2019, the production capacity for cultural fishing in the field of work is 3779 tons. However, the production was 2678 tons. This means that only 68% of the current capacity of cultural fishing is used throughout the province. In the remaining 32% there is no production. As a result, the Van or the cultural fishing potential was high but did not make the necessary breakthrough. If the cultural fishing in the province assesses the potential at the rantable level, it will contribute significantly to the economy of the region, especially to Van in general.
