EDUCATION SERVICES PROVIDED BY TURKEY TO SYRIAN ASYLUM SEEKERS and EVALUATION OF SOME PROBLEMS IN THE CONTEXT OF SOCIAL STUDIES EDUCATION

Throughout history, Anatolian soil, a safe haven for immigrants and asylum seekers, is now home to Syrian refugees. The asymmetric crowd naturally increases the cost and the difficulty of the services provided to them. As a requirement of international law and humanity, Turkey serves Syrian asylum seekers in areas such as accommodation, nutrition, health and education. In this study, it was aimed to determine the educational services provided by Turkey to Syrian asylum seekers and the problems that may be encountered in these educational services from the perspectives of Social Studies education. In this descriptive study, data was collected by document review technique based on literature and reports of public / private institutions and organizations. As a result of the findings, regarding the educational services to be provided to the Syrians; It is emphasized that the ideological education that the Syrians are exposed in their own countries should be considered. There are studies in the literature that show that the Syrian curriculum has many elements that contain content against Turkey and the Turkish nation. According to these studies, lessons such as Social Studies, History, Geography and Citizenship education in Syria have been constructed in accordance with the ideologies of Pan-arabism and irredentive Arab nationalism. It has been emphasized that special measures must be taken for the Syrian asylum seekers who have studied with this ideology in Syria to adapt to Turkey. The importance of the Social Studies course at the primary education level for the integration of the Syrian children and young people into the Turkish society and Turkish National Education has been evaluated in the context of the general objectives of the Turkish National Education and Social Studies course.
