Abstract:

Tourism, which has an important role in the development of relations between cultures, has gained importance in Turkey since the late Ottoman Empire. After the proclamation of the Republic, efforts were made to change the negative image of Turkey in Europe and to develop tourism. Reşit Saffet Atabinen, who had studied in Europe and served in high government positions with his knowledge, played a major role in the formalization and guidance of tourism activities in Turkey. The society, which was founded by Reşit Saffet Bey and his friends in 1923 under the name Türkiye Seyyahin Cemiyeti and continued its activities under the name Türkiye Turing ve Otomobil Kurumu, pioneered the start and development of tourism activities in Turkey. During his time in Europe, Reşit Saffet Bey identified the tourism policies of the states and the benefits of tourism to the European society and submitted reports to the government on the work to be done for the development of tourism in Turkey. An important report was prepared by Reşit Saffet Bey in 1932 for the development of tourism in Turkey. The aim of study is to reveal the studies recommended to be carried out in the field of tourism in Turkey in the first years of the Republic within the framework of this report. The main source of study is the documents we obtained from the Republican Archive of the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey State Archives. In addition to these, periodicals and research works related to subject were also utilized.
