Bektaşîler arasındaki ananelere göre Hacı Bektaş, Hz. Ali soyundandır. Altıncı imam Musa el-Kazım (öl.183 / 799) neslinden Horasan’ın hükümdarı olan Seyyid İbrahim-i Sâni ile Hatem Hatun’dan Nişabur şehrinde dünyaya gelmiş, Lokman-ı Perende1 adlı bir mutasavvıf tarafından yetiştirilmiş, Türkistan’ın büyük şeyhi Ahmet Yesevi (öl. 562/1167) ile görüşmüş 2 , onun işareti üzerine Anadolu’ya gelmiş, Kırşehir civarında Sulucakarahöyük’te yerleşmiş, burada bir çok derviş ve halife yetiştirmiş, bunları çeşitli yerlere irşat görevi ile göndermiş, nihayet orada vefat etmiştir
