Abstract:

In this study, the formal position and function of repetitions in the poetic language, which has high aesthetic value, are examined. The poetic language generally prioritizes aesthetics. In this respect, the poetic language disciplines poets by limiting their freedoms of production. Poets choose words meticulously, paying attention to these limitations within the short volume of the poem. However, in poems that are expected to be an area to display the poet's creativity and talent, it is seen that sounds, words, groups of words, lines or verses are repeated. This situation, which at first glance may seem paradox and contrary to aesthetics, is not coincidental, but causal. Poets equip repetitions with various functions in the limited field of poetry. Accordingly, repetitions create the cohesion of the text and create formal automatism, but this automatism is destroyed by cutting off the repetitions, thus increasing the reader's artistic perception ability. From the other perspective, repetitions support the reception process by establishing a figure-ground relationship in terms of cognitive psychology. Finally, it consolidations the position of the line in the poem. In this context, we basically discussed repetition in two parts. In the first chapter, we discussed what repetition is and suggested a classification of repetition types and explained repetition with examples from today's Turkish poetry. In the last section, we revealed the functions of repetition that we could detect.
