Abstract:

Foreign workers were called to continue the economic development in Europe after the World War II. But in recent years, this has been seen as a socio-economic and cultural problem by some community in these countries. All foreign people were seen as the cause of the socio-economic problems. But over time, "Turks" and "Muslims" took the place of all foreigners. The reasons for this idea change are, the Islamic Revolution in Iran, the Islamic terrorist groups and of course ‘The World Trade Center attack’. All these terrorist attacks and massacres were made by Al Qaeda and Isıs have been consubstantiated with Muslims and Islam. As a result of that, Islamophobia in the West countries and the popularity of racist political parties have started to rise. Excessive right-wing and racist parties that have been successful in countries like France and Austria have already begun to attract interest in other European countries and Germany as well. In Germany, too many racist parties were formed after the World War II, but none of them, except the AfD, could show their success in the German federal parliament (Bundestag). Even Alternative for Germany - AfD (Alternative für Deutschland) is a new party, but has made important moves in a short time, exceeding the electoral threshold of 5%, and succeeding in sending deputy to many federal state parliament and the German federal parliament (Bundestag). We tried to analyze the causes of this success that the AfD had shown in a short time and the racist and Islamophobic stance of the party with this article.
