Abstract:

Reşat Nuri Güntekin (25 November 1889 - 7 December 1956) is one of the writers who made a name for himself with his stories, novels and plays in the field of Turkish Literature in the Republican Period. Reşat Nuri, who criticizes the failing aspects of society in general and questions the moral actions of the individual in his stories, tried to tell what happened in an ironic language by making use of humorous elements. Reşat Nuri, who published the story "Bekçi" in Kelebek magazine under the pen-name "Yıldız Böceği", revealed the funny situation in which Nadide Hanım, who was widowed at a young age, was trying to protect her house from thieves. In the story, the behavior of the individual who tries to prevent theft, which is a social issue, which is contrary to social norms and is not ethically correct, has been criticized. This story, which deals with social and individual value judgments, is important in that it reflects the immoral action of the individual in a funny way. In this study, it is aimed to translate and analyze the Bekçi story, which is not among Reşat Nuri's story books, into Latin letters. For this purpose, the “Bekçi” story, which is the subject of the study, is is analiyzed both thematically and structurally throught the plot taking into account elements such as the cast of characters, time, space, point of view, language and style. In addition to this, it has been revealed what kind of narrative techniques the story is constructed, what kind of function the narrator has in the fictional plane and what role he plays in the story.
