Background: Purpose of this study was to investigate the profile of edentulous patients by evaluating the systemic diseases and examination findings. Methods: Clinical and radiological records of edentulous patients who referred to clinic for routine dental treatment were evaluated retrospectively. Reasons for referral, intraoral and radiological findings; systemic diseases, age, gender and prosthetic records were documented. Data was analyzed with SPSS 21.0. For statistical significance, p<0.05 were accepted as criteria. Results: Hypertension was the most common systemic disease. Temporomandibuler joint disease was found to be significantly higher in females compared to males for both the reasons of referral and the assessment of the mouth symptoms. It was found that the presence of cerebrovascular disease increased the risk of any signs in the mouth by 6.901 times; and the operation related to cardiovascular disease increased the risk of crest-related mental foramen by 6.317 times. Denture-induced fibrous hyperplasia was the most common observed intraoral finding whereas retained root fragment was the most common observed radiographic finding. Duration of use of existing prosthesis was found as to have no significant effect on radiographic and intraoral findings (p> 0.05 for each variable) except for denture-induced fibrous hyperplasia. Conclusion: It is thought that physicians and dentists should be coordinated in terms of early intervention and successful prognosis because of the fact that mouth findings may be related to systemic diseases in edentulous patients.
