Abstract:

This research was carried out with the aim of determining teachers’ views on the level of effectiveness of their professional work at the beginning and end of each academic year within the framework of the professional work programme. The research has been carried out in the state study pattern of the type of research. In the research, the focus group conversation, observation and document review techniques have been used together in order to take advantage of the individual conversation technique as well as the group dynamics. For the purpose of determining the study group, easy-to-accessed sample status method has been used. According to this, 16 teachers in different types of schools in the Erzurum province center, 25 teachers in primary school, secondary school and secondary school, three focus group discussions were conducted, 10 schools were observed, 6 school assessment reports were studied. In the study, the data obtained through semi-structured interviews and unstructured observation forms were used to analyze content in the document review while being analyzed through the visual analysis technique. The study found that the week of professional work did not pass effectively on behalf of teachers, that education did not contribute sufficiently to the development of the teaching process and the professional development of teachers. The study also concluded that teachers and school-based work that takes into account the needs of school and teacher will increase the effectiveness of the professional work program, and that the applicable professional work program requires a healthier assessment process to determine the contribution of teachers to the professional development. Design-based model development research on the development of school-oriented professional work program and application processes can be carried out in relation to the subject. Applying different professional development models, the impact on the development of teachers and students can be investigated.
