Abstract:

Purpose: The main purpose of this study is to study the needs of parents with mental disabilities. Method: The University of the Nine May has been approved by the Council of Social and Human Sciences Ethics for research (Decision No: 2016-178). In this study, a cutting-edge scan model was used from the visual research methods. The study’s work group consists of the parents of 199 students with a slight level of mental disability in the Samsun or Canik district, who need special education and still continue their education as a coaching student in various public schools. The data of the study was collected by Cavkaytar and others (2014) with the "Family Requirements Identification Tool" (AGBA) adapted to the Turkish language. Measurement tools between 01 October 2016 and 30 December 2016 were invited to the school’s guidance services and implemented by researchers. The findings: Families who participated in the survey found that their income levels were 52.3 percent low, 47.2 percent medium, 5 percent high; 30.7 percent of families received support in the care of their children with mental disabilities, and 69.3 percent said they did not receive support. 74.4 percent of parents need information and the article "I need more information about how to teach some skills to my child" is the substance that is too needed, the second place is 71.4 percent and the article "I need more information about my child's condition" is followed. Result: In the results of the study, the scores of the lower dimension of the information demand were high. It has been found that there is no significant difference between the levels of education and the family needs of parents with mental disabilities.
