Abstract:

Social information course is a course that aims to train good citizens, who are sensitive to the events that happen, who are aware of the problems that happen and who can produce a solution to them, who are aware of their responsibilities. It is important to provide resources that will improve the awareness of students in order to this goal. One of these is the current events. With the introduction to current events in the social information teaching, students can discuss, analyze and evaluate information about current events they obtain from various sources with their friends. Students should be actively involved in the preparation of the activities and materials to be used during the teaching of current events. Active participation, as it is known, has taken a key role in increasing the durability of the learners. A teaching environment that students will learn by living will help them the objectives of the social information course. In this study, the subject of the use of current events in the social information course, which was carried out with the active participation of the students, was discussed. The study included the basic information about current events, the benefits of the use of current events in the teaching process, the approaches adopted in the teaching of current events, the activities that can be applied during the use of current events in social information and the materials that can be used and, finally, the examples of developed activities for the teaching of current events in social information.
