Abstract:

Individuals who step into a common life with a marriage union may experience problems over time for various reasons. If family problems cannot be resolved in a healthy way, marriage may result in divorce. Divorce is an important life event that deeply affects all members of the family and has social dimensions. The main purpose of this research is to investigate the reasons for divorce and to examine the social adjustment process of children after divorce. For this purpose, a total of 31 divorced participants (18 women and 13 men) living in Trabzon province were studied. In this study, which was conducted with a qualitative research design, the interviews were conducted through a standardized open-ended interview form prepared by the researcher by taking expert opinion. The obtained data were analyzed by content analysis method. According to the results of the research, it was concluded that the most important reasons for divorce are cheating and irresponsibility towards spouse-children, disagreement and incompatibility between spouses are among the important reasons for divorce. Another important result is that after the divorce, the participants and their children stated that they felt much better emotionally, behaviorally and socially than before the divorce.
