Karakter eğitimi, öğrencilerin etik davranışlarını geliştirme amaçlı uygulanan kasıtlı bir disiplindir. İyi karakter, zaman içinde sürekli bir öğretim süreci, öğrenme ve uygulamayla oluşur, iyi bir karakter eğitimiyle gelişir. ABD, karakter eğitimi konusunda öne çıkan bir ülkedir. Hazırlanan karakter eğitimi programlarının çeşitliliği yanında uygulamada eyaletlere, bölgelere sağlanan serbestlik, alandaki zenginliği artırmaktadır. Florida Eyaleti, karakter eğitiminin zorunlu olduğu eyaletlerden birisidir. Karakter eğitimi kapsamında öğretilmesi hedeflenen değerlerin başında ‘vatanseverlik’ gelmektedir. Bu çalışmada, Kuzey Doğu Florida Eğitim Konsorsiyumu tarafından hazırlanıp uygulamaya konulan karakter eğitimi programı ‘vatanseverlik’ değeri bağlamında programın öğeleri olan hedefler, içerik, eğitim durumları ve değerlendirme bakımından incelenmiş ve sonuç olarak ‘karakter eğitimi programı’ hakkında Türkiye’de etkili olabilecek uygulamalara yönelik öneriler ortaya koyulmuştur. Nitel araştırma desenlerinden durum çalışmasının benimsendiği bu çalışmada veri toplama tekniği olarak döküman incelemesi kullanılmıştır.
Character education is a deliberately applied discipline with the aim of improving the ethical behavior of students. A good character is formed by a continuous teaching process, learning and practice over time, and develops by a good character training. The United States is a country that stands for character education. In addition to the diversity of prepared character training programs, the freedom provided to the states and regions in practice increases the wealth in the area. The state of Florida is one of the states where character education is mandatory. In the framework of the character education, the aim of teaching values comes to "patriotry". In this study, the character training program prepared and implemented by the North East Florida Education Consortium in the context of the value of "patriotry" the objectives, content, educational conditions and evaluation of the program are studied and, as a result, the recommendations for practices that may be effective in Turkey on the "character training program". In this study, the status study of the quality research patterns was adopted as a data collection technique for document examination.
Character education is a deliberate discipline to optimize students' ethical behavior. The United States is a prominent country in character education. Character education is mandatory in many states. Florida is one of them. In this study, where case study was adopted from qualitative research patterns, document analysis was used as the data collection technique. Teaching of 'patriotism', which is one of the most important values targeted to be taught to students in the character education program in the State of Florida. In the context of character education programs implemented in primary schools, objectives, content, teaching-learning process and evaluation were examined. Finally, recommendations for implementation that will be effective in Turkey have been revealed about 'character education'.
